I welcome the election of new Liberal Members of Parliament Danielle Martin (University–Rosedale), Tatiana Auguste (Terrebonne), and Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest), and want to express my pride and appreciation for their efforts.
These were important byelections that reaffirm Canadians’ confidence across two provinces and in our work to build a stronger, more sovereign Canada for the benefit of all, especially in these challenging times.
I also welcome the evolving composition of Parliament, with our government now holding a majority in the House of Commons. This stability will allow key legislation to proceed with the urgency Canadians expect, particularly on affordability, public safety and Canada’s role on the global stage.
Let’s be clear, these results should not fuel further division or partisan attacks. They demonstrate that many Canadians believe in the direction of the government under Prime Minister Mark Carney and that confidence was reflected at the ballot box in Ontario and Quebec.
A majority government provides the certainty needed for businesses, industries, and investors, both domestic and international, to operate with confidence.
For too long, progress has been slowed by obstruction and political gamesmanship. Now is the time for Parliamentarians of all parties to work collaboratively and deliver the results Canadians expect.
